My work is primarily mixed media in 2- or 3-D using repurposed materials. It is frequently quilt-based and/or incorporates photography.
The series Quilt Constructions, begun in 1994, is informed by traditional quilt patterns using non-traditional materials, including turkey skins, lead, and commercial white bread.
Other pieces incorporate photography, textiles, oil paint, and found objects. This work often addresses issues of overproduction, and environmental reparation and reclamation – the dystopian present as experienced through the overwhelming quantity of refuse generated by an extractive economy and consumer culture.
My hope is that art using recycled/reclaimed materials can transform the viewer's perceptions of sustainability. Please visit during 2021 Open Studios, October 9, 10, 16, and 17, from 11am to 5pm and by appointment; artist #172.
