I was born and raised in the beautiful beach town of Santa Cruz, California. It was so much fun being a kid in a great beach surf town! In elementary school, our family packed up and moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. It was wonderful being a kid in Hawaii…heavenly. So between living in Santa Cruz and Hawaii (lands of great beauty), I have only awe and gratitude. My eyes have been flooded with inspiration! Thanks, Mom and Dad for making that happen!
My first go at a career in art, took me to the film, video, and television industry where I worked as an independent make-up artist for over 20 years. I also traveled for and worked as a guest make-up artist for companies such as Chanel, Lancôme, Borgehse, Alexandra de Markoff and Shiseido.
After the make - up days, along with getting married and raising a nice family, I really yearned to create art that would last for more than a few hours. Make-up is really fun, but it does get washed off at the end of the day!
Oh! I discovered oil painting! I searched my heart for the things that I loved and felt inspired to paint. My list began with, a warm white sandy beach, tropical fragrant flowers, fruit warm from the sun, a beautiful getaway, spunky hula dancers, a tropical hide-away!
Yes, happily it became very clear. I love the places I call home! For me, there is a spirit of sweetness that comes along with the warm and fragrant breezes in the islands and the salty air of a cute beach town. It is my heart's desire that this inspiration and love for these places and their people come through in my work. My goal is to create something that will bring on a smile and evoke a deep warm feeling in the heart; of happiness, joy, peace, and contentment.
I must also say that beachy/tropical is a niche that I very much enjoy and feel comfortable in. I have been known to deviate from the norm and do a seemingly unlikely commission. I have been commissioned to paint, golf courses, ships, dogs, cats, families, and even wetsuits and surfboards! I enjoy the change and the challenge! Let’s just say, I love to paint!
