Artist Statement
I have been passionate about creating since I was a child. It was fortunate that my parents and teacher recognized this and encouraged my artistic pursuits. In grade school I took several drawing, painting and mixed media classes as well as piano, dance and sewing. By seventh grade I was designing costumes for school plays and making jewelry. I've taken many art classes and workshops over the years, and have taught others as well as myself. In 1994 I launched my jewelry business, and added my textile line in 2003.
I create and design my jewelry using a variety of techniques and materials. Techniques include soldering, lapidary, wirework, stringing, and collage. I enjoy working with gemstones, glass, pearls, and found objects. I incorporate textile processes such as knitting and weaving fiber and cord to add to my jewelry. I also make fabric out of silk roving as a foundation for my cuff bracelets. This same fabric evolved into garments such as scarves. I sculpt components and pendants from fine silver Precious metal Clay.
I am showing my work at the Santa Cruz Mountains Art Center in Ben Lomond. In January 2018, I received Second Place in the show "Another Time Another Place " that was held there. My work has also been exhibited at The Art League, Art of Santa Cruz, Makers Markets, and various shows throughout California. I have participated in the Open Studios Art Tour since 1997, and new this year, The Virtual Arts Network.
