Artist Statement

I have been in the studio during these months of isolation. It has afforded me time to reflect on what new direction I want to go. The work has gotten generally bigger and more open, as I have experimented with using raw canvas on the wall, which then gets stretched. This allows me to crop when I determine how big the end piece will be and where the edges will fall. I am working in a space at The Aptos Warehouse Studios that makes it possible to throw paint around to express myself without concern for making a mess. I think the floor under where I work is probably a work of art itself! The act of making this art gives me great joy. It is physical and full of movement, an aid in keeping spirits up in spite of the craziness of the world. I am in my own world when I am painting, an altered state that has a spiritual sweetness. Many of the images shown are placed in a “virtual” room, using an app, to better demonstrate how they might work in one’s space.
