In my last series, using oil paint mixed with cold wax medium on wood panel, I applied many layers of contrasting values, hues and textures. In these paint layers I may add pastel, graphite, charcoal, ash, and marble dust. It is then time to take away layers or areas by scraping, solvent reduction, or carving. I do not know what I will find. I am discovering. In this discovery I keep what is working and remove what is not. I am responding to what I see which gives me momentum to develop the image. The adding and subtracting goes on sometimes for a long time. The result may be representational or on the brink of reality.
I have exhibited in various shows in Santa Cruz County, including the Eloise Pickard Smith Gallery. I am currently exhibiting in the deYoung Open Exhibit at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco until January 3rd, 2021. I will be exhibiting at the Scotts Valley Library in a solo show to be announced after more details related to Covid 19.
